Dear Mom Crying in the Bathroom

Dear Mom Crying in the Bathroom,

I know that you didn’t see your day going like this. I know you didn’t expect to be crammed in a public restroom with your kids, begging them to behave for a minute.

“Please. Please, just stop. I’m not ready to go out yet. Mommy needs to compose herself.”

I’ve been there. I think. I don’t know what proceeded the scene I walked into, but I can imagine. Some days just go wrong. Sometimes there’s a perfect storm of kids acting like kids and moms who can’t bear it for another second. Sometimes all that’s weighing on our minds and hearts finally boils over and catches us by surprise. Sometimes we get a phone call that derails all our plans for a great day.

Whatever it was for you, you’re not alone.

I wish I could have done more for you in the moments my life intertwined with yours. I was ready with a smile or an offer for a smoothie, but you didn’t come out while I was there. And when I came back a few moments later with a gift card for you to grab a drink with, the bathroom was empty. So, I’m saving that for the next mom who needs it.

For you, though, that day I sent a little extra energy your way. I hope you felt it. I hope you felt not alone.

From,

Me
